Fleece Sale
2015 SAFF Handspinners’ Fleece Sale
In the past two years, you may have noticed that we have made several changes to our Fleece show to get Sale Fleeces on the floor as soon as possible, and yet continue to maintain that atmosphere of knowledge sharing with open judging. We have moved all judging to Friday, implemented time limits for fleece registration so that we have all fleece expected in and on the floor. We have also created a Silent Auction for Show fleeces so all buyers have a chance to see and purchase a prize winning fleece. This year is no exception. We are streamlining our fleece registration by upgrading our on-line registration site, and believe we can open the SALE earlier!
The Fleece Sale will open at 11:00 am, Friday, October 30, 2015, in our new location in the Boone Building, just across the courtyard from the Davis Arena.
Mohair judging will start at 11:00 am on Friday, followed by the Wool judging around 1:00 pm. The Alpaca Spin-off results will also be open and on display. Once judging is complete, winning fleece will be placed in the Silent Auction (see below), and fleece that is for sale will be processed and put out in the sale area. We will do our best to announce when judging is complete and all fleece are ready for sale or bidding; however we cannot predict the exact time. Much depends on the number of fleeces to be judged and the speed of the judges.
Silent Auction:
This year we have expanded participation in the Silent Auction to all 3 of our fiber types: wool, mohair, and Alpaca. Participation is limited to those fleeces for sale that win Champion, Reserve Champion, and 1st place class winners in the Wool, and Mohair Shows as well as the corresponding fleece from Judge’s Choice and High Point Winners in each color group in the Alpaca Spin-off. This gives all buyers a chance at a prize winning fleece.
Here’s how it works: As soon as judging is complete, we will place the winning fleeces that are for sale in the designated area. Each will have a bid sheet that will list the opening bid as the Producer’s price. This price will also be the 1st bidder’s bid. Subsequent bidders may bid in increments of no less than $2.00. The Silent Auction will be on display until 4:00 pm, Saturday October 31st. At that time, we will process the winning bids as soon as possible and notify the winners by cell phone. Fleeces may be purchased and picked up at that time. Sale Fleece that is not bid on will be put into general sale.
